Medical Aid

The Diocese offers 3 different types of Medical Aid to clergy, clergy widows, retired clergy and lay workers.  These are the following

1.       Medshield – Medical Aid

2.       Healthcard – Debit Card

3.       Complimed – Insurance Policy

Contributions to the Medical Aid come from the parishes and the Diocese.

1.       Medshield

The available options are Medivalue, Mediplus and Medibonus.  Each of these options make provision for major medical expenses and day-to-day expenses.  The funds available in your day-to-day facility expire annually.  It means if you don’t use the funds you forfeit the money and start in January with a new cycle.

 2.       Healthcard

It is a debit card and can be used if the benefits at Medshield are exhausted and if money is needed to pay for levies.  Contributions to the Healthcard is payable on a monthly basis by the Diocese.   The Diocese only pays if you choose the Medivalue or Mediplus option.  If you opt for Medibonus, then the member is responsible to contribute from their own money into the Healthcard.  The funds that you deposit into the Healthcard stay there and gain interest depending on the amount.  No cash money can be drawn at an ATM and claims from the card will go directly to the doctor and pharmacy.

 3.       Complimed

This option is compulsory for all members.  George applies automatically if you decide to become a member to the Medical Aid.  There is a prescribed policy to guide you when you can claim.  Application to use this policy is when the Medical Aid does not cover for medical expenses, this policy comes into effect.

All applications for the above must go through the Diocesan Office.  For more details please do not hesitate to contact Ivy at ivy.matthews@anglicanjoburg.org.za or 011 3368724.
